It is possible to travel both Sapa and Hagiang on the same route. But if you don't have much time, which destination will be more interesting? Hagiang or Sapa?
The answer really depends on your personal interest. Would you like to discover the wild nature? Would you prefer an adventure travel or even just wander around in a vibrant, modern, comfortable place? So once again: Hagiang or Sapa?
Go to Sapa if you don't mind someone jabbering: "buy from me" or turn your way for an authentic adventure road in Ha Giang.

Transports to Sapa
There are many choices to go to Sapa: bus, high quality limousine bus, train, motorcycle or taxi.
Sapa is a beautiful, modern and dynamic municipality of Lao Cai province. Sapa is 38km from Lao Cai and 370km from Hanoi.
If you are looking for something convenient, choose to go to Sapa by motorcycle, you will be able to leave at anytime and also choose the most beautiful road and and stop at all mush-see stop on route from Hanoi to Sapa as your wish.
Hanoi to Sapa by motorcycle:
1st route: Hanoi - Vinh Phuc - Vietnam Tri - Phong Chau - Doan Hung - Yen Bai - Lao Cai - Sapa (360km)
2nd route: Hanoi - Hoa Lac - Son Tay - Trung Ha Bridge - Phong Chau Bridge - Doan Hung - Highway 70 - Lao Cai - Sapa (370km)
Tavelling by motorbike, you may be on dangerous wet roads, curved and steep passes with limited visuals and moutain roads sometime can lead to bad situations. The weather in Sapa can be 0 celcius or lower, wear a thick coat, leather gloves to cover your hands. If you would like to enjoy a sleeper bus to rest a little bit and to avoid dangers related to a solo-driven motorcycle, remember to book a bus or train ticket from Hanoi to Sapa or Lao Cai.
Ticket price from Hanoi to Sapa
To take a limousine bus from Hanoi to Sapa, please visit the website dichungtaxi.com or go to any the local agency where you have to book a trek to Sapa, trek to Y Ty or trek to Ha Giang, Hoang Su Phi and get the bus ticket, return Limousine tickets.
Fare: 350.000VND/one way
Buses run every 15 minutes from 6:00 to 15:00 (Hanoi - Sapa) and from 7:45 to 15:30, (Sapa - Hanoi)
The picking you point will be at 16 Hang Chinh - Hanoi and 36 Luong Dinh Cua - Sapa or in the old quarter of Hanoi and Sapa.
The railway line from Hanoi to Sapa is also very convenient, the price is reasonable and safe. But, when you arrive at Lao Cai Train Station, you will have to pay for about 50.000VND/person for a bus ticket to go to Sapa.
Departure time at Hanoi Station: 19:00 to 22:00 and you will be arriving at Lao Cai Train Station at 5:00 to 7:00 in the morning.

By the way, the Hanoi - Lao Cai Train is not recommended at the weekends, the high tourist season and public holidays. You may want to take a bus from Hanoi to Sapa instead, this helps you save some money too.
Hanoi - Ha Giang
There is no train and less buses for the route from Hanoi to Ha Giang.
Road for bikers: follow the national road 2 from Hanoi to Hagiang which take 6h30mins for the distance of 290km.
How to get to Ha Giang in Hanoi?
First, take Vo Chi Cong street, then Vinh Ngoc, then Vo Nguyen Giap (16km). You then turn on National Highway 2A, and DT131 and DCT105. Go to the national road 2B for the road 2C in Tuyen Quang, then continue on the national road 37 for 5km. Cross the An Hoa Bridge, turn right after 4km near the clinic center of Doi Can. Continuing 158km, you will arrive at Ban Me Village, Phuong Thien and Hagiang is not very far from where you are now.
Remember to note down gas stations from Ha Noi to Ha Giang or prepare about 2 liters with you on your travel. And you may also want to write down the all must-see stops.
Second road from Hanoi to Hagiang following the national road 32
With a length of 311km, you will spend 7 hours of driving. In Hanoi, from Ton Duc Thang, La Thanh Street, Tran Duy Hung, you cross the Trung Hoa Tunnel to arrive at Thang Long Highway (27km), then choose National Highway 21 (20km) then National Highway 32.
You will then cross the Ngoc Thap Bridge and take the road DT320. When you arrive at Phu Tho College, turn left at National Road 2 towards Tuyen Quang. Upon arrival Tuyen Quang, do as the route above.
However, the road from Hanoi to Hagiang is not really appreciated. Why don't you take a bus to Ha Giang then rent a motorcycle in Ha Giang city or Tan Quang Junction at Ha Giang Motorbike tours. Explore spectacular Hagiang Loop route which connects from Ha Giang city to the far north.
Book the bus ticket from Hanoi to Hagiang
Currently, most buses from Ha Noi to Ha Giang will choose the Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway to go to Ha Giang. Then, turn to the national 2B, break in Tuyen Quang and continue towards Ham Yen - Bac Giang - Vi Xuyen, you will arrive at Ha Giang.

How to get from Sapa to Ha Giang?
Follow the route: Sapa - Bac Ha - Hoang Su Phi - Ha Giang - Dong Van - Meo Vac, when you pass the Xin Man District, at the crossroads, choose the direction Hoang Su Phi, because the other takes you to Si Ma Cai, Lao Cai.
From Lao Cai Train Station, buses depart at 6:00 or 12:00 everyday. One way ticket cost 200,000 VND.
