Ha Giang Loop Road Conditions

Bikers, if you head north you can easily get a motorbike in Ha Giang Town, as it is the hub now to do the Ha Giang Loop. You should ask your hotel about this service or contact 0936 37 46 76 for motorbike rental.

Riding a bike in Vietnam is different than back home, on the road you will often find goats and other animals so you have to be careful because when buses are passing, they like to overtake in corners as well.

The roads in the Ha Giang province are in good conditions with very few potholes and quite a few sharp bends while going up and down the mountains.

The loop is very steep but you will be fine as the paved roads are good and completely suitable for travelling on a motorbike. Just go slow as needed and be sure to use semi automatic bikes and you will be fine.

The only difficulties are going on some parts are in rough shape and definitely do not want to ride that part when its raining. And if you come across construction some parts of the road can be pretty bad, and the roads can also be steep and winding.

Roads are also very narrow so passing big vehicles like trucks and buses can be scary. Always be careful of other drivers coming from behind and in front of you.

However, you should be aware of this risk, biking legally in Vietnam, you need a valid motorbike licence from your home country plus an international permit.

You will be able to bike in the town as well as the ways outside, most people head to Ha Giang province to not just explore the area but also the surrounding area like Hoang Su Phi, Ba Be and Cao Bang.
