It is easy to understand why Ha Giang is the top list for most travelers coming to Vietnam once you see it.

The Ha Giang Loop is in Northern Vietnam, with famous places such as: Quang Ba Twin Mountains, the Lung Cu Flag Tower and see the blue water of Nho Que River from Ma Pi Leng Pass. Most visitors explore the loop by bus or with a tour company, but starting now, many of travellers are being able to see Dong Van UNESCO Global Geopark and touching the sky by riding a motorcycle, some make a journey to Hoang Su Phi terraced fields, the stuning layers and layers of rice terraces.

Sleeper buses leave from Hanoi for 200.000VND and from Sapa, you will take an hour local bus to Lao Cai and then enjoy 7 hours drive with the local bus to Ha Giang for 150.000VND. The buses normally get extremely crowded, so to be sure you have a comfortable seat by be in time.

There are also several places to rent a motorbike in Ha Giang.

Automatic or semi-automatic are all fine for riding to the loop, because there is proper asphalt for 95% of the route. But an automatic may provide few little problems to reach a mountains summit if the motorbike is not working properly. A semi-automatic is would be your first choice.

Hotels and Petrol Stations

All area Yen Minh, Dong Van, Meo Vac are easy to find accommodations as well as gas stations.

The more you stay, the more you can experience this beautiful region

You will have to spend at least 2 days to travel to Ha Giang Loop, stay in Dong Van for 1 night.

Trust me, leave Ha Giang City early in the morning so have plenty of time during your day. There will be some unexpected places that you wanna stop over. Follow the 4C from Ha Giang until Dong Van and you will be finding your way easy.

Heaven’s Gate will suddenly appear on you your way. But you kind of need to stop on the side 1km before reaching the summit. Park your motorbike and take some stairs up to enjoy the view of the valley.

The area around Yen Minh is all so on your must-stops beautiful green or yellow rice fields in season. But the best rice terraced is still in Hoang Su Phi District, Ha Giang.

A ride from Yen Minh to Dong Van is a good moment to make quite some progress in your trip when time is shorter. But if you want to skip Dong Van, the way between Yen Minh and Meo Vac shows you beautiful mountain scenery and a lot of children will be standing among the ride and wave at you. Or make your way to Dong Van, and from there go to Meo Vac.

Dong Van is a developed city with many tourists. There are plenty of hotels and the rocky plateau hotels is a little rare. The old market is a cosy square, very authentic cuisine, crafts and fresh fruits & vegetables. But be prepared for you that the place is always crowded.

Between Meo Vac and Dong Van there is the Ma Pi Leng Pass. The beautiful scenery shows the dark orange limestone rocks and in the valley flows a bright blue of Nho Que River.

It is possible to explore the higher loop and meet enthousiastic travellers who love the road trip and views. You should first take the lower part of the loop as it is a little longer trip, and the next day you can visit Lung Cu after leaving Dong Van.

2 kilometers away from Dong Van, you can make your turn to Lung Cu Flag Tower, the most northern point of Vietnam, same as Dong Van, this place is very touristic, almost of them are Vietnamese and especially at the weekends. But if you don't want to miss all the good site on the Sunday Market, check the other day.

This amazing rural area is still very poor area, the locals seem to appreciate to see tourist and some children may ask for money when you take a picture.

In addition, a few companies offer travelers from point-to-point for pick-up and drop-off motorbike from Hanoi, Ha Giang, Hoang Su Phi and Tuyen Quang.
